IT Best Practices: To Support or Not Support Consumer Owned Smartphones

Companies have historically standardized on a single smartphone platform. Of late, IT is facing pressure to support the increasing influx of consumer owned smartphones. This Osterman Research survey analyzes enterprise trends around supporting multiple smartphone platforms. Currently, only 26% of organizations distribute employer-supplied smartphones, yet personal use of smartphones is on the rise. RIM is the platform of choice, with over 82% of respondents currently supporting Blackberry smartphones. However, desire for iPhone support is increasing, with over 40% of respondents expecting enterprise support for the iPhone in 2009.
